Álvaro Márquez is a designer and creative leader working at the intersection of technology and user experience at globally recognised organisations such as frog design, Method and the ABC, and has established himself as a leading figure in the field of strategic design and user experience.
Alvaro is currently Chief Experience Officer at icon incar, where he leads a multi-disciplinary team of designers, technologists and strategists in the development of moonshot projects and world-changing R&D for the automotive and mobility industries. Álvaro is known for his systematic, no-nonsense and sometimes irreverent visioning work, exploring archetypal moments of everyday life from emergent futures and putting them into actionable context for business in the here and now.
Álvaro excels not only as a practitioner, but also as a leader in all areas of design: over the last two decades, Alvaro has held many roles, including Chief Design Officer, Head of Service Design and R&D, Researcher, Creative Director, Consultant, Advisor… While digital design is at the core of his practice, his focus on emerging technologies and human behaviour has allowed him to explore many different facets of the discipline: from creating new products and services for multinational organisations as a consultant; establishing an innovation framework for the development of an e-currency for a Scandinavian national bank; leading research into emerging devices and behaviours for one of the world’s most historically significant mobile phone manufacturers.
In addition to his professional activities, Álvaro devotes a significant amount of time to research, teaching and consultancy, and is a frequent lecturer and student tutor at colleges and universities across Europe, Australia and the UK.
Born and raised in Madrid, Álvaro received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Royal Art School in Spain in 2001 and his Diploma in Digital Design from the Istituto Europeo di Design in 2004.
